CODE LIVE

Description:

CODE Live intends to create a compelling artistic and substantive experience for visitors. As the real world manifestation of the online platform, CODE Live distinguishes itself from the online experience in its collaborative nature and methods of interaction. It is not designed to simply relay information, webpages are better at that; it is designed to engage and emote intrigue and entertain. The goal is to create something playful and artistic.

Technical Details:

SOFTWARE
Processing – Visual Programming environment
Java + Eclipse – Language to create the piple across technologies
MAX/MSP – Visual Programming language
MySQL DB – For storing digital content
Adobe Photoshop – For creating visual contents

HARDWARE
Arduino – Microcontroller
Camera – To capture human gestures
Projector

Role:

I was the lead programmer for the team. I was responsible for the complete pipeline of technologies.
I was primarily involved as java programmer connecting database content and displaying it visual through MAX/MSP and Processing.

I was also involved in creating physical prototypes involving arduino microcontroller for motion detection.

Challenges:

Real challenge was making different technologies talk with optimization of both code and signals getting passed from one device to another.

Outcome:

Instead of those challenges, we overcame it and created working physical prototype in 1 and half months.

It was a unique experience working with visual and sound artists and connecting four different piece of technologies which are backend, frontend through MAX/MSP & Processing and Arduino.

There were two basic virtual inputs, color & number of colored lines and one physical input which was motion.
